TMD manifests as pain and clicking in the joint, headaches, neck and shoulder pain, and in advanced cases limited mouth opening. The cause is most often an incorrect position of the articular disc in relation to the condyle.
A relaxation (occlusal) splint is a custom-made transparent tray worn on one dental arch. It creates controlled, even tooth contact – relieving the chewing muscles and joints, and eliminating harmful clenching and grinding (bruxism), which accelerate the degeneration of cartilage and the disc.
Used as initial treatment or alongside orthodontic treatment.
