In our practice, root canal treatment without a rubber dam and a microscope is unacceptable. This is not a matter of working style – it is a matter of standards that directly determine the effectiveness of the procedure and the patient’s safety.
The rubber dam provides absolute isolation of the treated tooth – it eliminates the risk of bacterial contamination of the canals, protects the patient from swallowing endodontic instruments and allows work in a sterile operating field. Without a rubber dam, root canal treatment takes place in an environment full of bacteria – and no filling material can compensate for that.
The microscope makes it possible to see the openings of accessory canals, dentine cracks, perforations and foreign bodies. Working under the microscope is the only path to root canal treatment performed with true precision.
