Three areas
we assess.
Tooth eruption is a complex process – any deviation can be the first sign of a developing malocclusion.
1 Airways Mouth breathing affects the jaw, the bite, sleep and concentration. We assess according to AAPD 2022 guidelines – the Mallampati classification and the Brodsky scale. More → 2 The TMJ and the growth pattern MRI studies have shown articular disc displacement in children as young as 6. Mouth breathing sets off a chain of changes that is hard to reverse once growth is complete. More → 3 The cephalometric X-ray – one image, four answers A lateral cephalogram assesses the facial growth pattern, skeletal maturity, tonsil enlargement and the position of the hyoid bone – all at once, from a single examination. 7 CHILD · AGE 7
A vertical pattern can still be modified with a functional appliance.
Early intervention – palatal expansion, myofunctional appliances – can change the direction of growth and avoid surgical treatment in adulthood.
16 TEENAGER · AGE 16
The same pattern is now established.
It requires surgical treatment or a therapeutic compromise. The therapeutic window has closed.
