Fixed braces with brackets and an archwire are a proven, effective method for treating a wide range of malocclusions – from simple crowding to complex skeletal anomalies. The brackets are bonded to the labial surface of the teeth and connected by an orthodontic archwire that gradually guides the teeth into the correct position.
In conventional braces the archwire is held to the bracket with elastic ligatures – small elastics replaced at every check-up visit. They come in different colours, which children and teenagers especially appreciate.
Ceramic or sapphire brackets offer a more discreet aesthetic – their colour is close to natural enamel, although the braces remain visible on the teeth.
Important for parents: The elastics absorb food dyes and yellow over time. They also create an additional surface for bacterial plaque – so hygiene with these braces requires particular care.
